The first two years of undergraduate medical curriculum takes place in the Biomedicum Helsinki building. The two-year curriculum is the same for medical and dental students. The principal method of teaching/learning is the student-oriented problem-based learning. Institute of Biomedicine carries the main responsibility for the teaching of the first two years of undergraduate curriculum.
In addition to undergraduate teaching, there is an active graduate training in the Biomedicum Helsinki building. The Helsinki Biomedical Graduate School, directed by Professor Tomi Mäkelä, is the principal organizer of the graduate training. This School comprises three programs (an M.D./Ph.D. program, and programs of medical cell biology and molecular medicine). Also graduate students belonging to several other Graduate Schools in the Helsinki area work in different research groups at Biomedicum Helsinki.
